Willow Journey: Art Journal

Hello Sunflowers! While working through the Soul Lodge course I've been trying to make time to record my findings visually. My art journal is becoming a sacred place where I spill out dreamscapes and pen letters to self. This past week we were asked to connect with a sacred plant: I chose Willow.

I'm drawn to their motion, their apparent ability to emote, the quiet rushing sound they make and their closeness to the water. There is a large twisted willow in my parents yard that used to be a second home to my siblings and neighbor boys.

We were sure she was magic. :)

Did you have a hang out in the woods? A favorite place in a park?

When I was a kid I always wanted a willow tree to play under. I can see why you'd be drawn to them.

Lovely journal page.

My son and I made a den in a wooded part of the park recently. I wrote about the experience which was quite magical.

Willows make great places for children to play - I used to love hiding in tangled branches when I was a kid. Thanks for the memory jog!

I love willows. That is a great memory to have of playing under a willow treat. Your picture brings out the sweetness of that memory

I always had a favorite tree by the pond, and my kids had a favorite, theirs was a crabapple. low and easy to climb, and for one week, a gloriuos pink. But thru it all willow has been my favorite to see, i was just never near one of my own! love your art!

Willows are definitely magical trees. I've always loved the willow. Your journal page is deliciously lovely!! I once found a wonderful little spot in a wooded area with this big old magnificent tree, the memory of which has stayed with me until this day. I swore I could feel that trees spirit reaching out and communicating with me. She even told me her name - it was Guinevere.

Awesome page! I love how her hair and clothes are leaves and how she is "hanging" out! I showed an image this week of something I saw when hanging out in the woods too.

I love all the details and creativity here.

Oh I love your willow girl, she is superb! Yes we use to hang out in an abandoned field as kids and build forts there. Also my dad put a picnic table up in a tree in our back yard and I would write and draw up there! As far as woods, that was only on our yearly camp outs in the Sierras which was shear heaven!Happy PPF weekend! Deb

I have a special place in my local park where I like to go. It's a certain grove of trees that feels like home to me.

This is gorgeous. Love the colors and the detail. My sisters and I used to climb a huge old rock (boulder?) near our house. Used to imagine all sorts of magical worlds while we were up there. Hadn't thought about that in years. :)
