Sketchbook Smetchbook Video Blog: Do It To It!

Hello Honeycombs!* For Paint Party Friday I've got a new vlog hot and fresh out the oven: a quick discussion about sketchbooks as tools and how to chameleon them into YOUR creative practices.

How do YOU sketchbook, Starlings?

***
I also made a wee bit of progress on my latest painting! She and I have a hot date tonight. ;)

I foresee gold leaf and glitter in the near future... Happy Paint Party Friday!

Hooray! Another vlog!!! I'm loving these :)

It is always so fun for me to see how other people keep their sketchbooks. Yours look great :)

I personally keep everything all in one book... doodles, more finished drawings, photos, my calendar, paintings, notes, ticket stubs, ramblings (I'm obviously good at that! ha!), and even recipes... all in one book - a huge jumble of ideas... definitely not a masterpiece on every page, but filled with loads of ideas for now and for later...

Thanks for another great post!

<3 sketch book slut!!! ME TOO!!! I seriously have a book case full of "sketchbooks" some are more journal-y while others have doodles and drawings while others are the required "academic" class sketchbooks. I recently have accumulated a bunch of smaller sketchbooks that could seriously fit into your back pocket (though some are kinda fatty and would just be awkward) and they are awesome for just jotting down a note to yourself or if you have like 2 minutes at the bus stop or even while walking to the bus stop to doodle or draw out a quick sketch of an idea or thought you are having.

My personal "practice" with a sketchbook sucks... I hardly every do anything in them since a lot of my work is 3D and I just can't "properly" put it down on paper. I usually make mockettes (sp?) of things instead which in a way is a sketchbook practice and I usually like to photograph my mini's from different angles if I have my camera on me.

<3 the video keep up the awesome work doll!

Oh, oh. I'm in minority. :) I only have one sketchbook. But it's getting full now and I'm literally searching for blank spaces to write or draw. :) I'm loving your vlogs! And from all the stuff about art journaling that's on the net your "theme" idea for sketchbooks is my favorite. I'm certanly gonna buy more than one sketchbook now. :)

very cool vlog. "art journaling with chocolate pudding..." that's funny. I have a few different books I use. Lately I've been using random pieces of paper and then taping all the pages together in a book format.

YOu are sublimely adorable. Thanks for your ideas. I thoroughly enjoyed your vlog! I love how you took the rules out of journal keeping! I have been enjoying an on-again off-again love affair with blank books since middle school (Thank you, Mrs. Lyons!) I love collage, drawing, writing, and collecting/archiving. I don't do much painting because I usually journal away from the house...like at the cafe, etc. But that is the next place to go for me.

And above all, my newest passion for journaling is to do collaborative works with family and friends (and sometimes even strangers!) That way, I am not only capturing an image or expression, I am walking away with a memory!

oh i could watch you all day-you are so entertaining! as for sketchbooks and journalling, its really something i've come across so much recently since joining in with ppf. i tend to do paintings or illustrations just on their own on individual art paper and the only time i used a sketchbook was for the arthouse sketchbook project which is on tour in the States right now. i liked it but found i'm not so good at rough skeyches as i want each piece to be a completed work (like a sketchbook of masterpieces, i wish!) i do need to start carrying a journal with me as ideas often pop into my head and i'd like to get them down in a loose form before i forget them! love your painting btw-stunning work!

YOU so totally ROCK! Loved your vLOG! I myself have a bookshelf with over 300+ reference books, one four drawer filing cabinet stuffed with clipped images and a fat inspiration folder for ideas. Love seeing other artist's processes and ideas! HAPPY PPF!!

What a FABULOUS video! I learned so much, I may have to watch it 6 more times. You left me wanting to see so much more of your sketchbooks and archive. And the whole idea of the way you archive was enlightening!

Very cool new painting!

I´ve done the archival thing all my life and progressed to themed archives. It was such a "way of life" for me that I even studied to be a professional librarian. :D
Loving your vlogs. :)

Enjoying your vlog, Molly!!! Since I'm more on the performing artist side, I keep two books. One filled with my monologues. Another book with all my ideas for my acting, tarot and other creative stuff.
Have a great creative weekend.

Great Vlog and info! I have many random ruined sketchbooks because I just practice ideas willy nilly and they are mostly ugly sketches while I figure things out!

Love your vibrant painting, which looks to be a self portrait? Love your style! Would have loved a peek in your sketch books too , so pretty!

Happy ppf!

Loving your vblog ...

I "archive" way too much but like you ... I'm LOVING it and it is the most important creative tool to me! :)

Pure awesomeness!! Thank you for confirming that it's OKAY to have a bunch of different journals going on at the same time! I've been doing this all along but thinking I was being scatterbrained about it. I've got a dream journal, an intuitions/synchronicities/coincidences journal, a journal to jot down all my ideas and inspirations for art I want to make (I guess this is my archive), a sketchbook for mindless doodling, a list book (LOVE making lists!!), a "Manifestation Journal" for things I want to visualize into being (My Manifest-o, ha ha!)...and I'm probably forgetting one or two or three others.

I so enjoy your VLOGS!
