Spider Woman and Goddess Give Away!

Hello Friends!
Though it was sleeting all afternoon there are sure signs of spring peeking out of the ground--all sorts of activity! There's been activity in Apartment Number 5 too! I began a weaving piece a few weeks ago and after much swearing and many yards of yarn, it is finished!

The planning stage:

Spider Woman has a wonderful mythology and busy busy fingers, so she seemed an appropriate subject for my Creatrix themed work this semester. Though the Hopi story is beautiful, I have no business lifting Hopi imagery. So, instead I borrowed the idea, tweaked it and created the HerSpeak version of the magickal earthy goddess.

In progress:

This weaving is made up of 5 different colored yarns, each being trimmed and changed after 5 stitches to create a painterly background as opposed to one flat color. After weaving the circular background, stars, pearls and glass beads were embroidered onto the blue circle.

The finished work!

I wanted there to be an interactive element to the piece, so I chose to place a grommet where the Spider Woman's third eye would be, through which you can pull a periwinkle colored thread. (There is a bobbin mounted on her back. It makes a delightfull whirring sound when you pull it!)

Now, on to the good stuff--
***A Goddess Give Away!***

To say Thank You to all you gorgeous souls out there for your support, commentary, thoughtful discussion and insight, I will be giving away this limited edition print! This HerSpeak Tarot Card is 1 of 18 double-sided hand pulled, 5"x7" lithographs printed with a vibrant violet ink on hand torn cream domestic etch paper:

The verso side reads:

"THE HERSPEAK IS A SOFT CARD; ITS VISION IS OF TOMORROW, MAYBE NEXT WEEK, CERTAINLY NOT IMMEDIATE. SHE LOUNGES ABOUT THE DECK ONLY TO POUNCE WHEN THE QUERENT LEAST SUSPECTS IT. (BE SURE TO CHECK IN ON THE THIRTEENTH HOUR OF THE THIRTEENTH DAY FOR BEST RESULTS!) THE HERSPEAK CARD IS ONE OF JACK KNIFE POSSIBILITIES, OF HOPE, OF EXPLORATION. THIS CARD ASKS YOU TO LISTEN, YOU SEE; THE UNIVERSE HAS MUCH TO TELL US IF WE ONLY LISTEN TO H E R S P E A K."

This printed was lovingly made and signed by yours truly. Get in on the Give Away fun by leaving a comment saying what YOU are doing to listen to the music of the spheres, the wind, your intuition by Midnight on Monday April 20th! Tuesday morning, the ever awesome Muffin will randomly draw a winner! Which of you will it be, my pretties?

Until Next Time--
Many Blissings and Merry Making, Friends!

Your earth Goddess is beautiful. I especially love she has a mask on. As if she can be anyone under the mask even me or you.
I'm loving that Tarot card. I can see it looking pretty right on my altar.

So how have I've been following my intuition..well I have been having dreams of an old love of mine. The dreams have been going on for months. So I finally gave in on Wednesday and contacted him. When I dream of someone that much, I know it's a huge sign to get in touch. So i did. He called me back. We talked and hashed out things between us. I'm happy about that. At least we can be friends again..

Love your Spider Woman dream catcher! I love the interactive idea and the poirot theme. It is a dream catcher, isn't it? It looks like one :)

Did you say giveaway? Oh! I am so in, please! :)

I lover your spider woman. She is magical. And spiders have come to me in dreams, yet I do not fear them.
As for intuition: I'm back to writing down and interpreting my dreams. It gives me great insight.
Also just writing in general-I'm just going to write what comes naturally. It's time.

BTW-I missed you while I was on spring break:)

Oh my!! Your vision/version of Spider Woman is totally and completely amazing! I love the original sketch and the finished piece does her so much more than mere justice.

Very well done!

Your Herspeak Tarot card is quite wonderful.

hmmm ... intuition work ... actually, I have been making an effort (trying to turn it into less of an effort) of slowing my mind and allowing self to just be. Writing in my journal, too, not worrying about "what if's" and just going with letting the inside out. :)

thanks for the chance. fingers (and toes) are crossed!

Love the interactive feature. Lovely.

I have been paying close attention to my dreams, setting my intention to remember them, and journal about them. I have been much more successful that I thought I would be so I am grateful.

Great giveaway. You are amazing and a pleasure to know!

Oh, I LOVE your interpretation of Spider Woman! Years & years ago I read 'Navaho Shepherd & Weaver' & other such books - fun that you chose to use frame weaving for this piece!
I won your lovely shell goddess (who hangs in my sanctuary of bathing) so don't enter me :) . . . intuition - I think mostly 'beeing' - yesterday I had a fun synchronicity - I had a call from my friend Theresa who had *finally* finished a necklace she made in trade - lovely greens, & I'd almost forgotten it! Then, in the mail, arrived ANOTHER necklace from an e-bay friend - also Theresa!! Lovely blues (larimer, adventurine) with OREGON picture jasper pendant! Yummy! BOTH of them . . .

Your spider woman is mysterious and alluring. Oh what webs you do weave! As for me I'm spinning a web of my own and today I've been tuning in and listening to my inner Self. The tree house is all quiet with only the sound of water moving in the fish tank. I've been moving between books intuitively reading a chapter here and a chapter over there and making discoveries and believing in the little signs that I pick up along the way. I've been unplugged for the most part but followed a hunch that led me here by way of an invitation from by Lissa and I'm glad that I did. I see that I'm right where I am suppose to be on my adventure. Crossing paths with other kindred spirits lifts my heart every time. I love your tarot and your art. Keep creating and thanks for sharing it with us!
